Formerly known as the Essential Collection, the Anime on DVD Recommendations page is a guide to prominent titles that we regard rather highly as being both important to the medium of anime overall or shows that we just absolutely adore and want to spread the word about. Some will be obvious picks, others will be ones that will be argued until the end of time as to whether they should be there. Regardless, it's our list and our own recommendations on what should be essential.

Please note that only completed series will be added to the collection. Any release in progress will have to wait until the final volume is out to be included, though there may be an exception or two depending on the length of the series. Only shows that are on DVD will be listed here, because frankly, we're a DVD site. Why would we recommend something that's not on disc?
