March 2002 Contest

With winter going out like a lamb where I am, we're going to send some lion-styled anime out there to some lucky fans, courtesy of the good folks at Bandai Entertainment.

We've got three copies of the Jin-Roh Special Edition set and three copies of the theatrical poster signed by Mamoru Oshii (director of Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor Movie, and creator Of Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade) - the artwork is his "dog"! (note: posters do not come framed)

Unfortunately, the three posters that we got had a minor bit of damage to them when they arrived. You can see in the close up here that it's not terribly bad, and according to the people at Prints Plus, you can have both sides shaved equally to remove it and keep the poster still in excellent condition. I wasn't told about this until after I picked it up of course.

With three sets of prizes in our hands, we're going to run three contests to play up readers different strengths. You can participate in each contest once, but you can't win more than one contest.

Contest 1: The simplest and easiest of the contests, this is your basic random email drawing. Send your email in with your name, address to jinrohcontest1@animeondvd.com. This contest ends on 03/31/2002
Contest 2: If you got tapped to write a big screen anime screenplay dealing with a period of time changed to your own designs, what era would you choose and what kind of story would it be? Send your email in with your name, address and story treatment to us at jinrohcontest2@animeondvd.com. This contest ends on 03/31/2002.
Contest 3: Using either existing artwork available or using your own original artwork, create a keepcase cover for the Jin-Roh set. Send your email in with your name, address and images to jinrohcontest3@animeondvd.com. This contest ends on 03/31/2002

The fine print: All entries become the property of AnimeonDVD.com and may be used in any promotional way. Contestants email addresses will not be given out to anyone. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to cancel or alter the contest at any time due to circumstances, however this is highly unlikely so fear not. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to add rules at any time.

And the winner is:

Contest 1: Brian Ruh

Contest 2: Stephen J. Avery

My story would be set around world war II, right after pearl harbor, what if right after the attack, the Japanese instead of pulling back and allowing America to prepare her forces, instead invade the mainland and occupies 1/3 of the united states!!! my story would have to do with what America would be like if it fought the war on their homeland, the struggle and suffering of the people of the land. It would follow several different plots within the major story (Gasaraki style)

I will follow the men of two companies (Band of brothers style) one on each side of the war. On the Japanese side, follow these men through the invasion of California, and their movement east toward the Atlantic. I will touch on their code of honor and Bushido, hear them talk about their fallings about the war, the family they have back at home, what they plan on doing when they are done fighting, the moral decisions they have to make, the orders they have to follow the friends they lose the enemies they encounter. you will get to know these men personally.

The same with the American side, You will see the bonds built between these men, their fighting on the front with a resolve to protect their home and families. Having to deal with the stress of fighting a losing battle after losing battle , constantly retreating. Dealing with ones emotions when family is killed due to the fighting. The friends...No, brothers and fathers lost in battle that will never be coming back. This fight isn't on some distant battlefield, its in their backyards. The schools they attended are now hospitals for their wounded, the houses they grew up in are now havens of the enemy, The fields once played in are now war torn battlefields stained with the blood of allies and enemies. You will feel sorrow, joy, and compassion for these Men and the characters they interact with both on the Japanese and American Side)

I will also follow the political aspect of it. With America partially occupied, she turns to her allies, great Britain and Russia,  for help but her allies are barely able to help since they are still recovering form a hard fought war with Germany, we follow the President, and the military leaders of this invaded county. Hear their decisions, see the tactics used, the orders given and see how it effects the men in the previous Paragraphs as well as the out come of the war. Will they make the right decisions?

I will also follow Some of the Japanese Government as well. (Like I had to tell you) just a little bit though.  The emperor of Japan giving orders to his Generals to invade the America mainland, the successful tactics used, I will reveal the thoughts of these men, their opinions of the decisions made and the consequences of it on the war. I will touch on their code of honor and Bushido as well and how it effects their opinion of the enemy's Resolve to keep fighting.

I don't think this can be told in a single movie, maybe a 26 ep. series or a 52ep. one :) This setup has a lot of possibilities in my opinion. the action will be there, the drama, suspense, sorrow, joy, love. It will all be here. I think this would make a great story setting.

Well its 3:30 in the morning, time to get to bed. good night

Stephen J
