And the winner is: Michael Montanye
Being a fan of Magical Girl series, one thing that I've noticed is that
the Magical Mascots and Magical Advisors almost always seem to know
just the right thing to do or say in almost any situation. So where do
they learn it? My best guess would be:
300.225 - Beginning Magical Mascots and Magical Advisors
This 10-week course offers the basics of being a Magical Mascot/Advisor.
The first half of the course will cover the history and power-granting
segments of being a Magical Mascot/Advisor, and the second half will cover
somewhat more advanced topics related to the duties of Magical
Mascots/Advisors towards their Magical Girls. Each week will have one or
more guest lecturers for the first hour of class, with some lecturers
covering the entire two-hour block. The Final Examination will not be
cumulative. Due to the "mascot" nature of this course, it is open to
non-humans only; humans interested in this course should consider 300.247
- Beginning Magical Mentors instead.
Prerequisite: 300.105 - Basic Magic (300.111 - Intermediate Magic strongly
recommended) with a C+ or better or Permission of Instructor. Corequisite:
300.226 - Magical Mascot/Advisor Lab
Week 1 - Introduction and Course Outline
An introduction to the material that will be covered in the remainder of
the course, explanation of grading policy, and other administrative
details.
Week 2 - History of Magical Girls and Magical Mascots
Two-hour guest lecture, covering the early days of Magical Girls and
Magical Mascots.
Guest Lecturers: Shippona, of "Himitsu no Akko-chan," the first Magical
Mascot, Bira, of "Mahou Shojou Lalabel," Buku, of "Sarutobi Ecchan,"
and Tonrarianno III of "Tonde Buurin."
Week 3 - Proper introductions and initial powers
How to meet your Magical Girl (or Girls), and the process of granting
their initial powers. This will also cover granting the ability to gain
new powers, if applicable.
Guest Lecturers: Pigu and Magu, of "Fancy Lala"
Week 4 - When and where to reveal new powers
The proper timing and situation to grant new powers, "remember" things,
or perform miraculous feats yourself is essential. This lecture will
discuss appropriate and inappropriate times to do so.
Guest Lecturer: Mokona, of "Magic Knight Rayearth."
Week 5 - Midterm Examination
The exam's format will be explained in class the week before, and will
focus on the guest lectures.
Week 6 - "Dos" and "Don'ts" of being a Magical Mascot/Advisor
This week focuses on some basic ground rules of being a Magical
Mascot/Advisor, and is designed to lay the groundwork for the second
half of the course. Many concepts introduced in this lecture will be
discussed in greater depth in the remaining lectures.
Guest Lecturer: Ryo-Ohki, of "Pretty Sammy" and "Magical Project S"
Week 7 - Enemy or Ally Detection and Ally Recruitment
Distinguishing between an enemy, an ally, and a bystander is a valuable
and possibly indispensable skill. This lecture will introduce basic ways
of detecting others with powers and determining their alliances. (Students
interested in this topic are also suggested to take 300.315 -
Detection and Identification Techniques)
Guest Lecturer: IR, of "Corrector Yui"
Week 8 - Motivating your magical Girl
Magical girls are very rarely volunteers, and are often brought into their
roles against their will. So in order to have the girl perform the job
needed of them, they need to be nudged forward by their Magical
Advisor/Mascot. This lecture will introduce several techniques that
are designed to do this.
Guest Lecturer: Luna, of "Sailor Moon"
Week 9 - Final Battle Preparation
It's finally here: your magical girl's final showdown with the enemy they
were given their powers to fight. Unless your magical girl is properly
prepared for this battle, her chances of winning are slim at best. This
lecture provides a few ways of preparing your magical girl for battle, and
leads directly into 300.309 - Final Villains and Final Battles. NOTE: This
is a three-hour lecture. There will be a second offering of this lecture
(time TBD) for those unable to attend for the full time.
Guest Lecturers: Artemis, of "Sailor Moon" and Kerberos, of "Card
Captor Sakura"
Week 10 - Final Examination
The format of this exam will be: 10 True/False, 15 Multiple Choice, 10
Short Answer, and 2 Essay questions, and the students will have three
hours to complete the exam. The exam will focus on the lectures, with
at least a fifth of the questions, including one essay, covering the guest
lectures. |
