December 2002 Contest
We're going through end of year cleaning, and have found
some things we simply need to get rid of to make room for more discs
coming in during 2003! For our first Cleaning House contest series,
we've got a combo package of four (4) Escaflowne Empty Art Boxes with each
one containing a near impossible to find sealed Escaflowne Tarot Deck!
We're going to make this very easy to enter and go with
the random drawing method with a little effort. Send us an email at
*removed* and tell us
who your favorite Escaflowne character is and why in at least 200 words. Send it along
with your name and address, so that if you do win when we randomly pull
winners on the date below, we can ship it off the next day. Entries
without addresses are discarded and a new winner is picked.
Entries will be accepted through 01/30/2003 @ Noon pm ET
The fine print: All entries become the property of AnimeonDVD.com and may be used in any promotional way. Contestants email addresses will not be given out to anyone. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to cancel or alter the contest at any time due to circumstances, however this is highly unlikely so fear not. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to add rules at any time. Only
one entry per person.
And the winners are:
Rachel Wise - Merle is less developed than the other
characters, but also lacks any truly annoying features. Her perfect kitty
expressions are a joy to watch in any scene, especially when she's licking
Van or thinking about clawing Hitomi. Gotta love the tail too. At the
beginning it's not easy to get a feel for how old she is, but when the
adult cats show up, it's obvious she's just a little kitten struggling to
keep her human safe. =^_^= Her antics always manage to cheer up any tense
situation. Her Japanese voice is the cutest ever, especially when she
whines out “Vaaaaaaan!” The second scene with Merle gives a better feel
for her character than any other first/second scene does. And yes, this
may mean she’s a little shallow, but a show like Escaflowne really NEEDS a
shallow character or two by the end. But watching her dig through Hitomi’s
stuff, sorting it all into two piles, “mine” and “trash”, is just like
catching a cat on the counter licking the chicken before the humans can
get it. One day I’ll sit my cat down for thirteen hours to make sure it
sees all the Merle scenes and say “if you were humanoid, is
that what you would be like?” And when she looks up at me with starved,
hate-filled eyes, I’ll give her a big hug. Anime needs more catgirls like
Merle and less like the Luck Twins.
Rob Brail - My favorite Escaflowne character is Vahn Fanel
I like him because no matter what the cost he tries to do right. I also
think it is great that you can see him mature through the episodes. As he
grows from a rash, hothead to someone who thinks somewhat about the
consequences (somewhat). The history around his family is and very
fairytale like. The connection to Atlantis is also a wonderful plot
element. As is the conflict with his older brother.
I like is look, the tough wiry boy with a lot of stamina. He has kind of
rogueish expression on his face when thinking or dualing, but his smile
really changes his look. It was neat to see the wings emerge from Vahn. It
gave him a more mystical appearance.
His relationship wth Hitomi is nice. As he learns what she is like and
learns to respect her and then to love her. He is neither a leecher or a
complete innocent. Although he does come over as more of an innocent, at
least when affairs of the heart are the concern.
All in all, I think Vahn is a great character. You can feel for him in
the show. I f I met him in real life I could call him friend. If there
was one thing that I would have changed was that he could have stayed with
Hitomi a bit longer in the end, but that is just the romantic in me.
Justin Higgins - I would say that my favorite Escaflowne
character is Hitomi, primarily because of the growth she experiences
throughout the series. In particular, I find it very interesting that she
was a character that was so driven by the concept of fate, and that she
was able to make such a difficult decision at the end that clearly ran
counter to what she believed was fated, but knew had to happen anyway.
This was clearly an important theme in a lot of what happened with
Escaflowne, both in the setting and in peripheral details suchas her tarot
cards and the way she generally approached most situations and other
characters. For her to essentially grow beyond this, and fly in the face
of what fate had seemingly pre-ordained (not to mention conventional
storytelling) is pretty incredible, and makes her one of the most
interesting and intriguing characters I've seen in any anime.
Jacqueline Harris - Hi my name is Jacqueline and my favrite
Escaflowne character is Allen Schezar. Here is my reason why He is the
ideal man in many ways. For instance, he is handsome (some women that
don't matter) back to the reasons. He is also charming how he can just
look at a women and they just melt. Plus, his voice the way he speaks its
just like you want to do anything for him. He is gentle in the way he
handles the girls in the series. Also he is an excellent swordsman, the
way he handle a sword is beautiful. It's
beautiful, elegant, fast, and deadly the style is just GREAT!!!! Allen is
a man would just love to know if you are a woman he do anything to keep
you safe. He just has a way with everything he is the definition of a true
Knight and shining armor. That is why MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS ALLEN
SCHAZER.
