January 2002 Contest

We're going through end of year cleaning, and have found some things we simply need to get rid of to make room for more discs coming in during 2003! For our sixth Cleaning House contest series, we've got an early release for you in the form of Noir Vol. #1! This volume is set to street on February 18th, 2003 but we'll send it out at the end of January to you!

We'll do this up as a random drawing contest but with the usual slight twist. You're the head writer for a series you've just been assigned to and the object is to pick a city in the world where you would base two assassins. Where would you set them up and why? Send your email entry to us at *removed* along with your name and address, so that if you do win when we randomly pull winners on the date below, we can ship it off the next day. Entries without addresses are discarded and a new winner is picked.

Entries will be accepted through 01/30/2003 @ Noon pm ET

The fine print: All entries become the property of AnimeonDVD.com and may be used in any promotional way. Contestants email addresses will not be given out to anyone. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to cancel or alter the contest at any time due to circumstances, however this is highly unlikely so fear not. AnimeonDVD.com reserves the right to add rules at any time. Only one entry per person.

And the winner is: Grant Pilkay

Today is a world where an Internet connection allows someone from Madagascar to have a Yugioh duel with a guy from downtown Brooklyn who claims to be a girl from Florida. Such a state of affairs would seem to make the Internet a great tool for any profession where anonymity would be a preference.

But it doesn't always work that way

If I was to base two assassins out of any city in the world, I would look for areas where local governmental control is loose at best, but that would have the infrastructure to support a technological lifestyle, as the net would probably be the best way to establish and maintain contacts (and contracts). It would also be an area where movement in and out of the country to any other area would be easily accomplished, by modern airports, yet have the ability to use alternate modes of transport such as private airplane from improvised strips or even overland to another country.

The city of Karachi, in Pakistan, has three airports, and is also near the sea where a private boat would be easy to get to. Overland routes are available, and there are paved roads available owing to the ports. While Pakistan is not really the friendliest place on earth, it has the advantage of being a traditionally touchy nuclear power which reduces the chances of invasion, yet makes the area unstable enough that it is easy to slip in and out without notice, and without the attention of the local authorities.

Assassination is usually not a cheap business, for either the client or the contractor, and the area s police are usually very open to bribery. The local poverty rate means that a little money can go a long way towards security.

You can see the map here to get an idea of the area.

Of course, there is one huge disadvantage to all of this.

Mirielle and Kurika would not look nearly as cute if they had to wear burkhas .
