Somewhere out there are announcements but no details for three more anime releases. Grave of the Fireflies, Legend of Lemnear and the Venus Wars. I've searched some, but haven't come across them yet. And with the 8 new DVD's I got in today, you know I have plenty to look at!

For those interested, here is the transcript from my questions with Image the other night at the Home Theater Forum.

NEWS: 06/29/98
Last nights Image chat at the Home Theater Forum was pretty enlightening. I managed to get my two tiered questions answered fairly well. Apparently the delays in the anime discs are not due to pressing plant order, but due to the fact that they received incomplete subtitling for the shows. Either they were missing portions or were poorly done, according to them. Four transfers were completed as of this past Friday, so there is a high chance we'll be able to see some of them out in July.

I also questioned on whether they might do a 5.1 soundtrack on any of them, and got a bit more of an elusive answer. Basically it depends on whether they have the rights to do it, but I got the feeling that it wouldn't be worth the effort.

No real news today, but word in the newsgroups during a discussion of Fushigi Yuugi gives indication that Pioneer will be moving away from laserdisc for newly acquired titles in the near future, and using DVD as the "optical media of choice". While this doesn't bode well at the moment for older titles being recompiled and put on DVD, it does sound great for when they're next batch of announcements makes it out. Too bad the El-Hazard 2 OVA series didn't make it in time to qualify for this.

Record Of Lodoss War has been delayed until 7/22 ... not that it's a surprise of course. When you consider Iria was due around 4/22 or so and is now at 7/15, I figure Lodoss will make an excellent Christmas present.

Speaking of Christmas presents, start looking into how to mod your player for region 2 discs, as faithful visit Pedro Colman-Arréllaga provides us with an in-depth and mouth watering review of Neon Genesis Evangelion the Reviews section!

New announcements are Laserviews today, though no anime. Can't say I'm too surprised, but I'm in the mood for some new titles in my grubby little hands.

One reader here, however, does have some titles and will be sending me a review of them sometime soon. Evangelion... yup, the Japanese Region 2 discs, and apparently they are top notch. ADV? Get off your keister, you got market here.

Check out this link to see what another reader sent me after digging into Multimedia 2000, the releasers of the upcoming Bubblegum Crisis suite, have to say.

And stay tuned for more M2K and BGC news sometime in the near future, as they contacted me today about... something.

Surprise, surprise. More Image delays. Art of Fighting, Big Wars and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer have all been pushed back to at least 7/22. I think it's time to take a poll down in the quizlet now...

I got a response from the webmaster at the spiff Pioneer Anime website today. I sent in a mention of the petitions we're running here, and here's the response I got:

I am aware of the petition on your site and have replied to someone concerning the release of the Tenchi OVA's onto DVD format. We are currently in the planning stages and although we hope it gets approved I can not say that it will. FYI we are also planning to release others onto DVD...

Encouraging? Or not? I'll take it as yes, since they at least have things in planning stages. Thanks P-anime!

The official Image announcements came today (roughly a week or so after they announce on their website, though here they provide dates) and included are 3 new anime titles. Roujin-Z is one I've been wanting since I saw a fansub some time ago, and I'm willing to give M.D. Geist a shot again, having not seen the second installment. But... 8 Man After? In dub only? This almost sounds like a repeat of the Street Fighter disc. Here's hoping we get more details on these discs.

Oh, as an aside, I spoke with a customer service person at DVD Express regarding the 8/25 release of the Macross II movie. They said that it was on one of Manga's sheets in regards to some of their other titles. Personally, I won't take it as "real" until we see something on Manga's page or something from Laserviews. I'm not being cynical, but I'm trying to keep to factual release information here for you guys.

Well gang, with the exceptions of Urusei Yatsura and Here is Greenwood, all the petitions have either surged past 100 or just made it over. Excellent interaction everyone. I'll again be sending out the petition info to people (anyone got an email that's good for Pioneer?) at the anime companies to show the continued interest. Sorry it took so long to get the recent additions in there. My poor fingers!

And thanks for the kind words to those who responded to my little rant in the latest editorial. To an extent, I enjoy being off in the fringe a bit, though I still need to get a friend or two at the anime companies so I can get some early reviews for you guys.

Today is day 3 without my DVD player. I'm in serious withdrawal. Thankfully, my new Panasonic A110 should be in tomorrow... and my parents are enjoying watching Ranma and Tenchi on their pre-used Sony 3000.

Oh, and speaking of Ranma... considering there were well over 100 people putting up their name on the petition for the show, how many bought the first movie? Hmmm? Lets get some chatter about that in the forum, see who disagrees with my review of it, or who wants to just plain suck up. :)

NEWS: 06/11/98
First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their patience for the lack of news during my short hiatus to get married. For what it's worth, it went off without a hitch! Anyways, back to the anime!

I've added 3 new reviews today, for DBZ2, Ranma 1/2 and courtesy of one of our readers, the Street Fighter 2 review. Most excellent. The anime DVD world itself has settled again into a short lull, though we did have two new announcements that will be added this weekend from Image - MD Geist 1 + 2 (Directors cut no less) and Roujin Z. Hopefully we'll get some real specs on them soon.
