Forum Buzz

12/07/2001 Edition

*sigh* My bad luck in getting my column written is continuing into another week. Last Saturday, my cable modem was cut, and I still don't have service as of Thursday. It's really causing a problem for me working on the site properly, and collecting all the information I normally put into this column. So this week's entire column is written from me cramming forum reading in-between my work duties. I've tried get as much info as I can, but I just couldn't keep a running tally of stuff for the forum facts this week, sorry :(

woohoo, another petition... right?

Actually a cool little thing to participate in, Amazon seems to be running a "poll" of sorts to judge demand for Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Totoro. Read the details here, then participate too!

ADV release dates

I'm sure most of you read these on Thursday, but it's worth mentioning here again. Soul Hunter Vol 2 - 2/12/2002. Streeting the same day will be Those Who Hunt Elves Vol 2.

Catgirls!

I'm abusing my voice a little here, but I feel the need to point a thread regarding Catgirl Nuku Nuku. A number of our users have spoken up about wanting a release of this series on DVD. We know since it's a backlog title that it'll be out next year most likely, we'd just like to know when next year! :) [ Original Thread ]

This week's hot title

Big title discussion this week was about the release of the Ah! My Goddess Movie. Kudos go to the packaging and the pencil board. Packaging in particular, which they really seem to have went overboard with (not that it's a bad thing). There is one flaw in the release it seems. Suffering the same problem as El-Hazard did, the subtitles are timed to the 2.0 audio track, and the 5.1 audio track differs in timing just slightly. It's not as pronounced as El-Hazard, but it is there.

A classic gets the premiere treatment

Bandai Entertainment announced their acquisition of Ronin Warriors for a DVD release this week. The surprise in this announcement? The release is going to have both the uncut sub version and the cut TV dub version on the same disc. They don't match up exactly in terms of video (cuts, commercial breaks, etc). We don't know exactly how the release will be done. [ Original Thread ]

Quote of the week: I liked the piece. It was a puff-piece, no doubt about it, but it gave otaku a glimpse into a world they can normally only complain about. -JSevakis

Once again, I've got to apologize about how these columns are turning out lately. Maybe I can hope for next week to be normal. You'd never believe how odd it is to have zero internet access at home. I've already read several books and made major progress in a few Playstation games. While it sounds nice... a complete 180 like this is just... unsettling.
