Forum Buzz: Revenge
By Sean Broestl

03/19/2002 Edition

Welcome back to another action-packed fun-filled episode of Forum Buzz. I'm back from another short hiatus. I'm not going to bother promising that I'll have another issue in a week, because it's just not going to happen. For this week though, we've got buzz regarding possible licenses, future rereleases, and EXCEL SAGA!

Kare Kano stuff

This is almost certainly going to come up again, so it's worth mentioning here. His and Her Circumstances is going to be a 5 volume release of 26 episodes at $29.98 a volume. The first episode will include a BOX. This BOX will be available at most retailers, in the same way the Love Hina volume 1 + BOX was.

asagiri2040 can't count ;)

Nadesico, Gasaraki, Excel Saga, and FLCL need what?

A couple threads this week dealt with the rather sensative topic of whether these particular series would be getting a BOX. Of course, no one really knows for sure right now except the companies in question, in this case ADV and Synch-Point. One forum user by the name of "Bullfrog" shared an email from BOX maker Paul Champagne claiming that a Nadesico box is one of several projects he is currently working on. Make of this what you will. As far as Excel Saga goes, the first DVD was JUST announced, and we're asking about a BOX. A little too much enthusiasm there, I think.

Pioneer and previously released series

Another thread this week discussed the possibility of a SoulTaker BOXset. Of course, being that SoulTaker is coming out on 4 DVDs, and Pioneer loves to release discs in BOXsets after the individual release, I'd say it's pretty that we will see a SoulTaker BOX at some point. [ Original Thread ]

It lacks extras, that means it should include...

General disappointment abound for the Ronin Warriors release which lacks all the extra content that's supposed to be extra. As expected, some users asked for a BOX for this series too. Don't forget though, a BOX of this series is coming out on May 7th, and it includes a 16-page booklet. You may want to wait for that.

Fun Forum Facts
Number of threads with the word "BOX" in the title: 12
Number of ads on animeondvd.com advertising BOXes: 2
Number of people tired of reading threads asking for BOXes: probably more than just me

Hmmm, that ended up a little more ridiculous than I thought it would. I am trying to make this a summary of what's going on in the forum though, and the box thing is literally making up 60%-70% of what I read in the R1 and Studio Feedback forums. I'm sure I'm not the only one tiring of it. While I understand that everyone is excited about boxes, I'm sure there's a point where you just begin to beat a dead horse. It's obvious that the studios KNOW the R1 market is interested in boxes, maybe it's time to step back from the issue now. It's getting ridiculous.

Off to build myself a mansion of boxes,
