Forum Buzz
By Sean Broestl

01/21/2003 Edition

I'd like to welcome everyone back to the infamous Forum Buzz column. It's been nearly seven months since my last column entry, and for that, I'd like to apologize. To be honest, I was surprised at how many people found me writing a running commentary on something as boring and devoid of activity as a web forum an enjoyable read (sarcasm, sarcasm). I promised a number of you in Forum Feedback that I'd pick this up again, and so, going to give the column another go. Really apologize for the long absence; hopefully I can keep this going at a more regular rate.

Website Mania

One of the most common posts in the R1 forum lately is the announcement of new series websites (sometimes when they aren't supposed to be up yet!). This week, we have new sites for Noir, Mahoromatic, and Master Keaton.

  • Noir website
  • Mahoromatic website
  • Master Keaton website

    The Box Summary

Since boxes are still a perennial hot topic on the forum, I'll summarize some of the threads regarding some of the upcoming ones.

    Magic User's Club box set

I was really excited when I read about this box set coming out, as I loved the OAV for this show. Judging by the responses in this thread, it's easy to tell that I'm definitely not this show's only fan. As is often the case with box set re-releases though, there were some issues to figure out. This box set is just a repackaging, 505 minutes, 7 discs. It likely won't have the neat clear packaging that Magic User's Club OAV 1 had, since that was limited edition.

    Patlabor TV Series Box

Assuming you read AnimeOnDVD.com, you would have noticed that Patlabor TV is coming out as a box set with the first 4 volumes soon. CPM still plans to continue putting out more Patlabor (all of it eventually), but for now, individual volumes will continue to come out quarterly. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no plans for a box for those of us who buy our Patlabor fix the moment it's available.

Wasn't there suppost to be Evangelion Movie Box set comi...

I thought this was supposed to be coming out late in 2002. That release never happened. It appeared again recently, with a June 6th, 2003 date. Whether this is true or not has yet to be confirmed. An email from Keith Burgess posted in the thread merely calls it a possibility.

    Studio Feedback Summaries

ADV: Voices of a Distant Star - What version(s) will be on the DVD?

For a 30-minute show, this is shaping up to be a pretty exciting DVD. Besides the show, there appears to be a good amount of extra content, including 3 versions of the award winning short film, "She and Her Cat".

I've got to apologize, this will be the only thing I'll have for Studio Feedback this week, and I haven't been following the forum all that closely.

    Off-topic fun

Congratulations to chirpie, he's decided to tie the knot with his SO. If you have advice, warnings, or just want to give your regards, here's where: getting married, any advice?

Find out if one of our forum members is your type: What's your blood type?

And that's really all I have this week. I didn't catch any notable quotes, I'll double them up next week though. Until next time (and hopefully that next time won't be 7 months away...)
