Forum Buzz
By Sean Broestl
01/31/2003 Edition
Another week, another buzz. It's been an extremely busy in the
forums this week. It really doesn't come as a surprise, since we had the first
major licensing announcements of the year, among some other exciting
revelations. We've also had plenty of doses of the usual forum silliness,
spirited discussion, and interesting questions.
Apologize for this edition being
a couple days late. Lots of stuff went bad at work whenever I thought I had a
free moment to get some writing in. :P
The big news
The big news this
week is Media Blaster's new licensing announcements. After Chris expressed
worries about the quality of MB's catalog for 2003, they announce in the Q&A
section their first acquisitions for the new year, 12 Countries (Junni Kokki)
and Samurai Deeper Kyo. The thread only started sunday night, but it's spawned
over 100 replies, and will likely be going for a couple more days. In the
interest of saving bandwidth, I'll summarize what more information has been
revealed about these series. John Sirabella stated that they will be putting a
lot of effort into these two series, as their A-list titles for 2003. The
series' DVD releases will be starting in July and be bimonthly. Since it was
asked every other post, They WILL BE SOFT SUBBED where text is needed. 12
Kingdoms is being dubbed by fan-favorite Bang Zoom, Samurai Deeper Kyo is being
dubbed by NYAV. John Sirabella believes they'll be going for 5/4 episodes a
disc, Kenshin style. As far as episode counts go, Samurai Deeper Kyo is 26
episodes, 12 Countries is planned for 68 episodes right now. 12 Countries could
go longer though...
Hot new release or not?
Cyborg maids, DVDs, poetry, and replaced
Japanese text... oh my! Mahoromatic Vol 1 has made it into fan's hands this
week, and while the feedback seems to be for the most part positive, the
replacement of the japanese text during the "Satellite Poetry" segments of the
show has caused some dissension in the ranks from some of the usual and not-so
usual crowd. I'm sure most of you won't mind, but by all means check the thread
if you feel so inclined.
Drop that box!
There's mounting concern about some upcoming boxes on
the forums. According to some early reports, the Argentsoma and Wild Arms boxes
are on the flimsy side. Since we haven't seen any official reviews of these
boxes on AoD yet, there's really no way to verify this. Is this a preview of what
I imagine will be a million different threads in a couple weeks?
The best merchandise money can't buy
The world lacks Crest/Banner of
the Stars merchandise. I don't think anyone would disagree with me here. Here's
a thread looking to find more merchandise available for the series, with some
interesting links, even if it doesn't directly translate to stuff to buy.
Some music threads
Because I would never want Leliel and HCE to have
too little work to do in the Music Forum. Hopefully they'll be able to point out
some threads for themselves next week (hint, hint).
The AoD Perverts
I'm not
sure what to say to all this... It's been a fairly active thread, not to
mention one of the topics that keeps coming up in IRC today. What is one man's
innocent hobby became completely misunderstood (according to him, anyway) as
the legions of Off-topic readers made their evaluations of a website
showcasing japanese dolls. I've got to make an apology to the website's owner,
as this did turn out to be misunderstanding. However, any thread that
generates more infamous bremmi art is definitely worth a mention. (If you
missed it though, too bad! Turned out to be a limited edition one :) )
Quote of the week Who? Sapphire? Mariela? Who are these people? -Jerry_Vo
Original thread Ok, I admit the quote isn't that great, but I can't keep up with all the
specific contents of each post these days. If people want to submit forum
quotes, please do so. If you're going to help me out here, please submit the
text of the quote, and the url of the message. If I use your submission, I'll
make sure you get credited here, unless that's not what you want. Also,
don't be lame and try to quote yourself :)
